Upper School - Barley Lane

Welcome to the Upper School- Barley Lane

Newbridge Upper School provides a high quality and personalised curriculum, supporting pupils to make outstanding progress and prepare them for their next destinations and life. Pupils are aged 11 to 19 years and have a range of complex SEND. Development of independence is central and pupils are taught skills that will support them into adulthood.

The learning environments provide safe and stimulating spaces that enable pupils to access a range of activities led by a specialist teacher and supported by a team of highly trained staff. Class sizes are usually between 6 ā€“ 8 pupils and are led by the class teacher and 3 Learning Support Assistants.

Pupils have input from NHS and school-based therapy teams, providing Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The school is also supported by the Special School Nursing Team who oversee the medical needs of the pupils.  The school works closely with external partners such as SEATs and social care to support pupils where needed.

There are a number of specialist facilities available within the school including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and rebound therapy. Community learning is of high importance for Newbridge pupils, providing essential opportunities for skills to be developed outside the classroom and many local visits happen weekly such as shopping, library visits and well-being visits to the forest. Pupils within Newbridge school have access to cultural capital through weekly music sessions and regular performances by Redbridge music service, visits from drama and theatre groups and access to community visits to the cinema and other local events.

At Newbridge we value our familyā€™s cultures, languages and background.  Positive relationships between families and school are vital and we work closely with our families and other professionals to provide the best opportunities for pupils. The school hosts termly progress meetings with families and regular events throughout the year to mark key celebrations which we encourage families to attend.  At Newbridge School, we work to support families as much as we can through coffee mornings and information sharing sessions where families can meet each other and learn new skills.

Newbridge upper school works closely with Post- 19 settings including colleges and social care settings to ensure that transitions into adulthood are supported. ā€˜Moving Onā€™ our 16plus curriculum ensures that pupils are prepared for life after school and supports them to gain the skills needed for their next destinations.
