Welcome to the website of Newbridge Academy

About Newbridge Academy

I would like to warmly welcome you to Newbridge Academy.  Newbridge Academy is an outstanding special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years, who have severe and complex learning differences.

At Newbridge all of our pupils will develop their communication and independence with an emphasis on what the pupils ‘Can do’.

Split over two sites our Lower School provides an exciting foundation to pupils learning with a range of fun activities and resources. We are passionate about forming relationships with our pupils and their families so we really know each unique child’s background, interests and motivators. Every child will start their school life in a safe and stimulating learning environment that will help form a lifelong love of learning.

Our Upper School builds upon these relationships and interests developing their cognitive skills, social skills and levels of independence. By providing a child-centred, stimulating and holistic curriculum, pupils will develop self-confidence and resilience both within school and in their wider community. Once in sixth form we focus on preparation for adulthood so our pupils leave Newbridge with the skills they need ready for their next destinations.

We are immensely proud of our school and its pupils and each small step of progress they make in their unique learning journeys.

THE KINGS GARDEN PARTY FOR EDUCATION AND SKILLS

14TH MAY 2025

The trust were very pleased to be asked by the outgoing Redbridge Representative  Deputy Lieutenant - Mike Brace to nominate two people who have made outstanding contributions to education and we had no hesitation in nominating Louise Parr - who when Headteacher of Newbridge School showed outstanding leadership and vision to convert the school to an academy and established Astrum Multi Academy Trust in 2017 when she became CEO and founder and Executive Headteacher of Hatchside School in 2021. Louise is now retired after 40 years of service to education.

Also, Ann Garrard, who has given significant voluntary service with our schools and Trust, starting originally over 40 years ago as a parent of a pupil of Ethel Davis School. Ann volunteered to the Parent and Friends Association later becaming a governor and Chair of Governing Body seeing the school through the amalgamation with Hyleford School to become Newbridge School in 2005 and the academisation of the school and formation of Astrum Multi Academy Trust in 2017 when Ann became the original Chair of the Trust Board.  Ann continues to play a significant role in the Trust Board and Parent and Friends Association, keeping the well-being of both the pupils and staff at the forefront of her work.

Louise and Ann attended the King's Garden Party for Education on 14th May and had a great day stating 'it was a wonderful experience and a real privilege'.

We think you'll agree, very worthy nominees!!

NEW MINIBUS FROM DENNIS WISE IN THE COMMUNITY

Newbridge Academy were delighted to receive a new adapted minibus obtained by the Parent and Friends Association, (PFA),  from the charity Dennis Wise in the Community.

The bus was formerly presented to the school by Dennis Wise himself who attended the school on 16th May and met with pupils, staff and PFA members.

With a high level of wheelchair users within the school the pupils had limited access to the community without the use of an adapted minibus.  The new minibus has a greater capacity for wheelchair users which will allow whole classes to go on trips and outings that are a vital part of the curriculum, as well as to support pupils independence, communication and numeracy skills.  We are grateful for this generous donation from Dennis Wise in the community and the PFA for their continued support in fundraising for equipment and resources for the pupils.
